I ask you, Governor Deal, to use your public influence to stop the illegal and unconstitutional execution of Warren Hill.  Mr. Hill is scheduled to be poisoned to death by our state government next Monday, 07/15/2013, for the 1990 murder of fellow inmate Joseph Handspike.

Our state constitution requires, alone among the fifty states of the union, a showing of mental retardation ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ to disqualify an inmate from the death penalty.  Governor Purdue, nine out of nine medical experts who have examined Warren Hill have made precisely that determination.  Not only does the constitution of the United States of America bar the execution of the mentally retarded, using a slightly less restrictive burden of proof, but our own state constitution bars this execution!  Our distinguished former Governor, former President Jimmy Carter, among a host of other religious and civil leaders in our country and throughout the world, has called on Georgia to cancel this execution.  Please, Governor Dean, do whatever you must to stop the execution of Warren Hill!

Former Attorney General of the United States of America Janet Reno, as well as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the government’s.

Please, Governor Deal, help stop this killing of Warren Hill.  If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black bands worn and the church bells tolled in protest of this injustice.

Thank you.

I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state’s execution of John Quintanilla. Mr. Quintanilla is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Texas next Tuesday, 07/16/2013, for the 2002 murder of former sheriff’s deputy Victor Billings during a robbery.  Accomplice Jeffrey Bibb got a prison sentence for participating in the same crime.

Officer Billings’ death occurred during his struggle with John Quintanilla to control Mr. Quintanilla’s gun.  Mr. Quintanilla’s coerced confession was allowed to be presented to the jury at his trial.  Helping the state put him to death, Mr. Quintanilla barred his attorneys from offering mitigating evidence at his sentencing trial. It is clear, Governor Perry, that John Quintanilla has not yet received his constitutionally guaranteed fair trial.  You must stay this execution so your state can provide Mr. Quintanilla the due process he deserves.

I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state’s execution of Vaughan Ross. Mr. Ross is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Texas next Thursday, 07/18/2013, for the 2001 murders of Viola McVade and Douglas Birdsall in a jealous rage over his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.

Vaughan Ross committed this crime after he believed he heard his girlfriend’s sister advising her to reconnect with her old boyfriend, Mr. Birdsall.  Normally a well-behaved citizen of your state, Mr. Ross snapped and committed this extreme crime.  Even the families of the victims do not want Mr. Ross executed.  It is clear he needs rehabilitation, not a poisoned needle.  You must stay this execution so your state can provide Mr. Parr the treatment he deserves.
