I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state’s execution of Kimberly McCarthy. Ms. McCarthy is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Texas next Tuesday, 01/29/2013, for the 1997 murder of neighbor Dorothy Booth.
This murder was committed during an out-of-control crack rage by a desperate addict. As has been affirmed so many times in the courts of the U.S.A., crack addiction debilitates its victims, leaving them unable to contemplate any behavior, let alone the moral implications thereof, other than procuring the next ‘bump’. In the U.S.A. we treat our ill, we don’t execute them. You must stay this execution to allow the possibility of the addiction treatment Ms. McCarthy deserves.
Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in the state of Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the government’s.
Please, Governor Perry, stop this killing of Kimberly McCarthy. If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.
Thank you.
Did she get executed?
Kimberley McCarthy’s execution was rescheduled to 4/3/13 to allow her attorneys to pursue an appeal based on the racial makeup of her jury.
