I ask you, Governor Bentley, to stop your state’s execution of Cary Grayson.  Mr. Grayson is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Alabama next Thursday, 04/12/12, for the 1994 murder of Vicki DeBlieux.

Cary Grayson was nineteen at the time of this crime, while his three accomplices were all under eighteen years old.  During the four individual trials, the prosecutors argued that each of the defendants had primary responsibility for the crime, while Mr. Grayson’s incompetent attorneys raised no objection to the strategy.  Further tainting their representation of Cary Grayson at trial, his attorneys failed to investigate and present his extreme childhood abuse.  Finally, Cary Grayson has always been mentally ill, with a medical diagnosis of bipolar disease.  Governor Bentley, for constitutional and medical reasons,  Alabama may not kill Cary Grayson!

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in the state of Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the government’s.

.

Please, Governor Bentley, stop this killing of Cary Grayson.  If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.

Thank you.

I ask you, Governor Fallin, to stop your state’s execution of Garry Allen.  Mr. Allen is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Oklahoma next Thursday, 04/12/12, for the 1986 murder of his girlfriend, Lawanna Gail Titsworth.

Mr. Allen suffered severe head trauma during his childhood, leaving him with debilitating epileptic seizures.  His mental capacity was so depreciated that medical experts testified at his trial he could not have formed the intent to murder.  He was at first judged incompetent to stand trial and sent to four months of treatment.  The neuropsychological report offered by the prosecution at trial claimed he was then competent, but Mr. Allen’s defense team was never allowed access to the findings.  Further, during his arrest an officer discharged his gun into Mr. Allen’s brain causing severe brain damage.  With clear, unrefuted evidence of his mental incompetence, Oklahoma may not kill Garry Allen.  That would defy the standards of justice and humanity upon which our country is founded.

I ask you, Governor Scott, to stop your state’s execution of David Gore.  Mr. Gore is scheduled to be poisoned by the state of Florida next Thursday, 04/12/12, for the 1984 murder of Lynn Elliott, a thirty seven year old hitchhiker.

There are many problems with the death warrant you signed for David Gore, Governor Scott.  First among them is your meeting with a Florida newspaper editorial board, potentially and unconstitutionally biasing your decision.  Second, Mr. Gore’s legal representation at both trial and appeal was unconstitutionally flawed.  The right to competent representation at trial has long been settled law, and a recent United States Supreme Court decision affirmed the same right for the appeals process.  His trial attorneys neither investigated nor presented Mr. Gore’s long-term alcohol and drug abuse, his lifelong mental health problems nor the very low chance that he would ever be paroled if given a life sentence instead of the death penalty. During post-conviction appeals subsequent attorneys bungled simple investigative procedures that could have kept David Gore off Florida’s death row.  It is clear that David Gore has not yet received his constitutionally guaranteed fair trial.  Governor Scott, you must stay this execution to allow your state to safeguard David Gore’s constitutional rights.

Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the governments.

Please, Governor Scott, stop this killing of David Gore.  If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.

Thank you.

Why in the world are you making excuses for murderers at all costs avoiding discussion of the victims? And, why in the world are you using inflammatory language to the Govs? The murderers you are attempting to save have been found to murder w/premeditation.

Reexamine what constitutes injustice – although you refer to this term when speaking about bonafide murderers, again there is no mention of victims.

I respectfully detest this attempt of twisting justice and pleading for murderers and not even a single word about the victims.

You know, your point that the vitcims get lost in all the hype about the death penalty is a really good one. We maintain the ‘Victims Gallery’ on our site to try to give some reality to the victims of these horrible crimes and I would like to put more information about them in our distributions. However, over the last couple of years I have found less and less information on the victims. It is even hard to find images, much less information.

That said and considering my overwhelming sense of loss for the families of these tragedies, I stand by my view of the death penalty in the U.S.A. It is biased by race, gender and geography. It alsmost never brings peace to the families of the victims (just ask the members of the organization Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation http://www.mvfr.org). It does not curtail the frequency of murder in the U.S.A. It diverts community resources away from the kind of rehabhilitation that could really make our communities safer. And it is common sense that we can’t tell our society’s members not to kill people by killing people.

Thanks for your thoughts on the subject.

You need not have bothered with a reply to that Thomas Rykala. If you search his name, you will see he is rabid supporter of the death penalty who holds parties to celebrate execurions. He changes his tone to get published, since most sites would not publish his bloodthirsty screeds. By the way, keep up your good work!

-I am a little raetltd after reading what Sister Prejan had to say. There are no words that can describe how terrible the actions of these men were. This is another case that involves intense use of drugs and how it affects individuals decision making. What surprised me even more was how Sister Prejan took the emotional side of the murderer rather than the side of the victims family.-She is saying how in order to obtain a true opinion on whether or not the death penalty is right or wrong, you need to experience what a individual on death row goes through on the days leading up to his/her death. There is a lot more that happens behind the scenes to the person that awaits his death, and A Dead Man Walking is a perfect example of this.Furthermore, she expresses how one must experience both sides of the story. You need to feel the pain of the victims family and the pain of the killer.-Sister Prejan is against the death penalty because she believes in foregivness. She preaches that exoneration and love are the two reasons why no one should have to experience the death penalty.-After reading about Sister Prejan and Clifford Boogess, my opinion on the death penalty has been changed dramatically. I used to be pro-capital punishment, but now i feel that i am considering being against it. I am currently on the fence with my decision and have not made up my mind on wheather or not i am in favor of capital punishment.

I ask you to review the case facts and evidence of Grayson and his 3 accomplices, their admissions of this horrendous, brutal murder….How can you come to the conclusions that he shouldn’t be executed?? One of them has repeatedly asked for death!!
