I ask you, Governor Fallin, to stop your state’s execution of Timothy Stemple.  Mr. Stemple is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Oklahoma next Thursday, 03/15/12, for the 1996 murder of his wife Trisha, with the help of an accomplice.

A new analysis of the evidence in this case presented recently to the Pardons and Parole board in your state draws into question whether any crime at all was committed.  A forensic specialist determined that the injuries sustained by Ms. Stemple were not consistent with the prosecution’s view that Mr. Stemple murdered her.  In fact, maintained the forensic specialist, the injuries were more consistent with a car accident.  Further, the primary witness against Mr. Stemple, his accused accomplice, was rewarded with a reduced sentence for his testimony.  With significant doubts remaining about Mr. Stemple’s culpability and even about the nature of the victim’s injuries, Oklahoma may not send Mr. Stemple to his death!

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in the state of Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the government’s.

Please, Governor Fallin, stop this killing of Timothy Stemple.  If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.

Thank you.

I ask you, Governor Fallin, to stop your state’s execution of Garry Allen.  Mr. Allen is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Oklahoma next Friday, 03/16/12, for the 1986 murder of his girlfriend, Lawanna Gail Titsworth.

Mr. Allen suffered severe head trauma during his childhood, leaving him with debilitating epileptic seizures.  His mental capacity was so depreciated that medical experts testified at his trial that he could not have formed the intent to murder.  He was at first judged incompetent to stand trial and sent to four months of treatment.  The neuropsychological report offered by the prosecution at trial claimed he was then competent, but Mr. Allen’s defense team was never allowed access to the findings.  Further, during his arrest an officer discharged his gun into Mr. Allen’s brain causing severe brain damage.  With clear, unrefuted evidence of his mental incompetence, Oklahoma may not kill Garry Allen.  That would defy the standards of justice and humanity upon which our country is founded.
