I ask you, Governor Scott, to stop your state’s execution of Robert Waterhouse. Mr. Waterhouse is scheduled to be poisoned by the state of Florida next Wednesday, 02/15/12, for the 1980 murder of Deborah Kammerer.

Mr. Waterhouse picked up Ms. Kammerer at a bar and had sex with her. He has consistently maintained his innocence of the murder, saying that today’s DNA technology could clear him However, the court clerk in his original trial destroyed all the DNA evidence associated with the case. Further, a new witness has come forward to confirm that he saw Ms. Kammerer and Mr. Waterhouse leave the bar in the company of another man. Governor Scott, Mr. Waterhouse has not yet received a fair trial on all the evidence in his case. You must stay this trial to allow justice to take hold for Robert Waterhouse.

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in capital crimes is in Texas, the state which executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord’s, not the governments. Please, Governor Scott, stop this killing of Robert Waterhouse. If this execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.
