On Monday U.S. District Court judge Carlton W. Reeves granted a stay of execution for at least two weeks to Edwin Turner of Mississippi.  The stay will allow time for consideration of Mr. Turner’s contention that the state of Mississippi has improperly barred jim from seeking a psychological evaluation that could bear in his sentencing.  Mr. Turner has a long and well documented history of mental illness, including a disfiguring suicide attempt just prior to the crimes for which he was sentenced to death.
